FAQ

Where is the xPilot client config file?

  • Windows: C:/Users/<USER>/AppData/Local/org.vatsim.xpilot/AppConfig.json
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/org.vatsim.xpilot/AppConfig.json
  • Linux: ~/.local/share/org.vatsim.xpilot/AppConfig.json

Linux Users

You may need to enable hidden files and folders to see the .local folder.

Tip

If the xPilot client is running, you can enter .appdata to open the folder directly.

Disconnected due to low frame rates

VATSIM requires X-Plane users to maintain at least 20 frames per second while flying. This helps prevent a phenomenon called time dilation, where the simulator runs slower than real time and your aircraft appears to move more slowly on radar than its reported groundspeed.

X-Plane enforces a strict 20 FPS minimum to keep the simulation running in real time. You can read more here: The simulator’s measurement of time is slow

I can’t see any TCAS targets on my plane’s radar

Make sure you do not have any other plugins installed that may interfere with xPilot TCAS control, such as XSwiftBus, XSB, or X-IvAP.

Network Error: The server failed to respond to the authentication challenge

This is usually caused by a poor connection between your computer and the VATSIM server. Try connecting again or selecting a different server and then retry.

I can’t transmit and/or receive audio in my aircraft. The COM radios are grayed out in xPilot

Make sure the aircraft radio stack is configured correctly for transmit and receive. In some aircraft, the audio panel may not function correctly, in which case you can manually force xPilot transmit and receive behavior with the .tx and .rx dot commands. See Dot Commands for details.

Error connecting to voice server. Please check your VATSIM credentials and try again.

If you recently created or reactivated your VATSIM account, it may take a few minutes, and in some cases up to 24 hours, for your account to synchronize across VATSIM services. Until that process is complete, voice may not be available even though text still works.

You must also complete the P0: Basic VATSIM Member exam before voice can be used.

If your account is already active and eligible for voice, verify that your VATSIM credentials are entered correctly. Passwords are case-sensitive.
